Portrait of Nadine Spielmann

Nadine Spielmann

Institute of Experimental Genetics, Helmholtz Munich, DE

Nadine Spielmann, PhD, is a Swiss scientist with international experience in cardiovascular and genetic research. For nearly a decade, she has held leading scientific roles at Helmholtz Munich and within the Cardiovascular Working Group of the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC). Her research focuses on translating insights from mouse models into improved understanding and treatment of congenital heart defects (CHD) and rare cardiovascular diseases. She has an extensive publication record in this field. Her presentation will highlight mouse models of CHD across developmental stages, from embryo to adulthood.

  • 24 November 2026 · 12:50Beyond Phenotyping: Mouse Models of Congenital Heart Disease from Cardiac Phenotypes to Molecular Mechanisms
    Abstract

Congenital heart defects, cardiomyopathies and sensorineural hearing loss can co-occur in rare genetic disorders, suggesting shared developmental pathways. Using genetically modified mouse models, we investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying cardiac and auditory abnormalities across developmental stages. By combining cardiac phenotyping with transcriptomic and spatial analyses, we explore how genetic alterations affect tissue development and function. These approaches provide insights into potentially shared molecular pathways and illustrate the value of mouse models for understanding rare human disorders and identifying candidate mechanisms relevant to cardiovascular disease.
